As long as I remember I've had this need to create art. Whether it was music, writing, or painting. I feel this strong need to create art. It does not matter if anyone likes it or see it. I need to create it. It helps me through good and bad times and lets me express my unique journey and experiences.
But why do we feel this need?
Nietzsche said "We have art in order not to die of the truth". Nietzsche suggests that art provides a necessary and comforting buffer against the harsh realities and existential truths of life, allowing us to grapple with them in a more manageable way. Certainly art brings beauty into the world and calls out the horrors of humanity, but I don't think that is why we do this.
I think that it is about our heart and our souls and our need to express and share what is inside us. Pablo Picasso said "The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls." Art serves as a form of purification and rejuvenation for the human spirit, offering an escape from the mundane aspects of life and yes it is an escape. I think for the art is a means of sharing and communicating profound human emotions and experiences, fostering connection and empathy among individuals.
